Adelong is a small, historic town set in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. European settlement of Adelong began in 1840. Gold was first discovered here around 1853 and after this time the population grew quickly and many of the historic buildings in Adelong's main street were constructed. Many of these heritage buildings in Adelong are now classified by the National Trust. Adelong is now a thriving rural community with a population of around 900 people.
